Publishing Your Book

Sovereign World is now offering a brand new service to authors in recognition that many authors have great material that needs to be put into book form but is not accepted, for whatever reason, by mainstream Christian publishers.

To respond to this need Sovereign World has set up a self publishing imprint called Gleam Press (Named after Proverbs 4:18). Gleam Press uses all the experience and resources available within Sovereign World, with a view to creating a personalized, high quality self publishing service to Christian authors.

There are other companies who sell self publishing services, but we believe this new Christian based self publishing service we are about to offer is easy, transparent in price, excellent value and of very high bespoke quality.

Gleam Press Standard Service offers authors a publishing service at an up front cost to the author. In other words, the author pays Gleam Press to create the book. Gleam Press can proof edit, copy edit, typeset, produce a cover design and print to give you a high quality book done to a standard almost identical to the one provided by Sovereign World. The difference being is that the author pays for the production service up front, the author purchases the books (just 1 copy to a 1000 books can be printed using high quality digital print-on-demand machines, or 1000+ books are printed on lithographic presses) and the author is responsible for their own marketing, sale and distribution. Gleam Press on a standard service does not presently sell or supply to the trade. This would be for the author to arrange. Therefore, this service requires no contractual agreement. Here is a general guideline of what's included:

• Manuscript evaluation: Within 5 working days of receipt we review each manuscript prior to accepting the work to check its suitability for publication. We will not produce a book that is deemed heretical, unbiblical, or undermines fundamental evangelical theology. The book must also be a MINIMUM of 30,000 words.
• Proof edit: Checking of basic spelling and grammar.
• Typesetting: Creating the pages of your book by laying out the text, using a font of your choice (we recommend Dante or Garamond). For fonts not already available on our system, the author must purchase these separately if required. We can offer you a choice of basic, high quality template designs for attractive chapter heads (Indexes, photographs and colour is not included in the price, but separate estimates can be provided).
• NOTE: We only produce books in a trade standard format: Demy (216mm x 138mm). This saves costs for you. If you want a different size format, then we can consider it, but at additional cost, which can be discussed.
• Printing: 1-1000 copies using print-on-demand. 1000+ copies printed using lithographic press. Author purchases these books at manufacturing cost plus shipping.
• Typeset pages and cover design files are presented to the author for them to print the book wherever they like. However, the files are produced to the specification of our approved printer.
• Author ISBN and generated barcode (which is placed on the book cover). The ISBN is purchased in the authors name. This identifies the author as publisher and owner of the book (not Gleam Press). An ISBN is used by booksellers for title, stock identification and is mandatory if you want to sell through commercial channels. At a discount of £110, we can remove this service - but no barcode will appear on the cover.
• A high quality JPEG image of the cover.
• Gleam Press will send legally requested free copies of your book to the British Library Depository on your behalf.

OPTIONAL

• Copy Editing: This is where sentence structure, repetition, accuracy, consistency and flow are all reviewed and adjusted.
• 500 A5 flyers with basic details of the book to help you promote your new book!
• A selection of 3D rendered book cover graphics for you to use on your website, blog, newsletter, display stands, etc.

Proof Editing: £2.00 per page
Typesetting: £2.00 per page
Cover Design: £300 (includes bespoke designed high quality cover, spine, and back and allows the author to submit a basic design brief, if required, to the designer)
Printing: For the first printing there is a one off set up cost of £50. Actual printings will be at manufacturing cost (no added charge from Gleam Press), depending on size of order. Please call for more information. As a guideline, a 160 page book is approximately £2.00 ea on a print on demand basis. You can sell a 160 page book at a normal retail price of £7.99.

Sovereign World at CBC Sandown (Christian Booksellers Convention)

Sovereign World has booked a stand at CBC Sandown, an event that is now running alongside CRE (Christian Resources Exhibition). If you would like to come and meet us we will be at stand GV8-9, which is in Grandstand View (CBC's section of the CRE event). CBC will run from 12th - 15th May, 2009, Sandown park, Esher. Michelle Guiness will be a keynote speaker at the event. The CRE event runs from 13th - 16th May.

For those who are in expectation of the arrival of Peter's book, Forgiveness - God's Master Key, this was unfortunately delayed before Christmas. It is currently at the printers and will be available from our warehouse at the end of January.

Living the Life by Peter Horrobin

One of my main goals as a publisher is to express how Christianity can resonate within the real world - not some pseudo, spiritual world that bears no relevance to the reality of a day's problems. Jesus came with the conviction that his message can not only radically change our destiny, but give us the practical tools to overcome life's daily issues.

With this in mind, I do believe Peter Horrobin's (co-compiler of Mission Praise) new material, Living the Life, will impact many. It is strong theology but expressed with practical truths. I am looking forward to seeing how his book will be received within the Church and most especially in homegroup environments. The paperback book comes with a free DVD, but the full DVD set of Peter's teaching is available with a separate study guide and is perfect for group study. It is a great discipling tool for all group leaders to invest in.

New! Sovereign World Christian Books Blog

Welcome to the first post on my Sovereign World Publishers Blog. Glad you dropped by. Given the growing demand for information about our Christian publishing company, Sovereign World, and the books we publish, I have decided to pull all this information into this Christian blog site. The aim is to convey information that not only tells you about the books Sovereign World produces, but gives you an inside perspective on the reasons why we publish certain books.

I also thought it would be of interest to readers if I share my own thoughts with you on developments in the Christian scene in general. Right from the start I will say that this will not mean theological discussion and argument. My personal interest is to see the Lordship of Jesus Christ prevail in the day-to-day reality of the often troubled circumstances and world we live in. We are all fallen people living in a very fallen world. Rather than get tangled in controversial theology, I see through my own personal walk a far greater relevance in examining the Gospel in the light of positive and down-to earth application for the real world. Jesus bathed complex theology with simple stories.

So, on this blog you won't find this publisher hopping from one heavenly cloud to another and talking about those experiences. Instead, you will see me at street level, looking at how we can make sense of the mess this world is in - and sometimes that we find ourselves in. Yes, theology is keenly needed, but it needs to be actively engaged with life application so that we can apply God's Word by His Spirit.

Sovereign World's strapline is, "Bringing together the Word & the Spirit". As I share about my role as publisher I hope that there will be something you can take with you that illuminates a new pathway to making sense of your world and your issues.
